After weeks of looking for a trip that we could take together (no kids) during the time our youngest would be on spring break (and could go to his mothers) we finally found a cruise to Cozumel, Mexico – Grand Cayman – and two days in Havana, Cuba. It is a Holland America Cruise, smaller older ship. But the cost total for seven days and a day before stay in Fort Lauderdale is under $2100. We searched Travelzoo, Travelocity, Groupon, Cruise.com and finally found a trip that meets all our criteria. Whew, a lot and I mean a lot of looking (months of looking) our deal was on Cruise.com, but cheaper directly thru the Holland America site (like $150 each cheaper). Now just to dream and figure out excursions, hopefully loose a few pounds and buy a nice outfit.

Second Marriage Bliss for the two of us, instead sulking after our divorces, we opened our hearts to new dreams and met online (Match.com). We married in 2016 and merged our single parent families together to raise our 5 teenagers, and work our way thru our newly blended family and our dream of retiring early to sleep more than 8 hours and travel the world. Yes, we both worked long hours, Dave is a Robot Programmer, Laura is a Diagnostic Medical Physicist. We put our kids before ourselves for years, saved and ate at home and now after years of all this sacrifice and raising our kids - we are closing in on empty nesters, and we realized we have the opportunity to retire early and follow our dreams to travel the world. How are we going to do this? Well we have a lot of ideas, but lets see how it works out. Our original retirement dates was January 1, 2021. We are reviewing the option of working another 3 years but prefer to keep the 2021 date, either way we will be retired by 55 years old - still trying to figure out how, but working toward our goal everyday, while enjoying each other and our blended family. Follow us to see what happens before and after our dream date. View all posts by David & Laura Speer
